After an nice visit with our friends, the Forbes, in Auckland (they were nice enough to feed us again and put us up as well), we headed out of Auckland and southeast to the Coromandel Peninsula. Here we went to see the "Hot Water Beach", which was a non-event as the tide was apparently too high and it was quite a chilly day.
Supposedly, you had to dig down to find the hot water...presumably a spring. There were a lot of people there, trudging around with shovels and digging around, but no one we spoke to found the hot water.
There were fools swimming, in the very limited area between the flags (lots of rips, rocks and huge waves), but it wouldn't certainly be me!
We have seen some beautiful coastline, though.
